Prank Letter - Reply from President McAleese
September 19, 2007
On Monday I posted this prank letter that I sent to the President of Ireland, Mary McAleese, wanting to confirm an unusual urban-legend-style anecdote about her for a book. Here’s the reply that I got: >>>
Reply from President McAleese
Dear Ms Shaw,
Thank you for your letter of 26th July, in which you request confirmation of an event concerning the visit of a Government Minister to Aras an Uachtarain.
While the information regarding President McAleese in the first paragraph is correct, the remainder of the anecdote has no basis in fact whatsoever.
Should you require any further clarification, I can be contacted at 01 *** ***** or 087 *** ****.
Yours sincerely,
Grainne Mooney

Yes, urban legends do get around. I sent a similar letter to Neil Armstrong asking him to confirm an urban legend about him - the ‘Good luck, Mr Gorsky’ story.
