The Most Multi-Cultural Rural Irish Areas

June 15, 2007

Outside of the five cities, where are the most multi-cultural rural areas of Ireland? Well, four of the top ten are in County Cork, two are in Clare, and one each in Wexford, Galway, Kerry and Monaghan: >>>

The Top Ten

  1. Rosbercon Urban in Wexford (pop. 628) 34-46% Non-Irish
  2. Gort in Galway (pop. 2739) 39-40% Non-Irish
  3. Dromore in Kerry (pop. 242) 33-34% Non-Irish
  4. Monaghan Urban (pop. 2122) 31-32% Non-Irish
  5. Ballybane in Cork (pop. 252) 31-32% Non-Irish
  6. Carrowbaun in Clare (pop. 130) 19-31% Non-Irish
  7. Durrus East in Cork (pop. 253) 27-29% Non-Irish
  8. Coolagh in Cork (pop. 173) 28-29% Non-Irish
  9. Lisdoonvarna in Clare (695) 9-29% Non-Irish
  10. Glanlough in Cork (pop. 183) 27-28% Non-Irish

Note

The reason why there is a range of percentages for each area is that a small number of people do not state their nationality on the census form, so we do not know whether these people are Irish nationals or not.
