Bono Finds God Living in a Cardboard Box
May 28, 2007
Bono finds God living in a cardboard box. But what on earth is God doing there? Listen to Bono make an impassioned sermon that unintentionally makes a strong argument for atheism.

I am, I must admit confused by the opening lines you wrote above the Bono clip. I hear a 21th century translation of the Beatitudes. What do you hear?

I hear Bono inspiring other people to help the poor, and that is a very good thing, even if he does wear sunglasses while indoors. I would say the same about much of what Jesus is quoted as preaching.
However, if the type of God that Bono talks about did exist, and did actually live with the poor, then that God would surely be helping the poor directly. That does not happen, so it seems unlikely that such a God exists.

does Bono exist though? And if so, is he in fact a black woman?

He may be a character in The Da Vinci Code.
An anagram of his real name, Paul Hewson, is Halo Sewn Up.

No Bono isn’t a fat black woman. You’re getting him confused with Eddie Murphy.

Bono was speaking to the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), a civil rights organization in the United States. They had just given him an award for, I think, being Bono.

When you say God would surely be helping the poor directly. you are showing you ignorance of the Christian God. Jesus said ‘Blessed are the poor for they shall have the keys of heaven’ not of BMWs

Thanks for that comment, Rosnarun. But according to the Biblical Jesus it’s the ‘poor in spirit’ who get the kingdom of Heaven. It seems to me that they could have any number of BMWs, as long as they are ‘poor in spirit’.

‘Blessed are the poor for they shall have the keys of heaven’ not of BMWs…
Fuck the poor then, if that’s God’s attitude.

Listen to the tone and rhythm of Bono’s voice. Seems to me he has been watching too many old clips of the late Dr. King’s speeches.

wow. whoever made this video obviously doesnt know anything about arguing for atheism. I could do a better job than that and i believe in God the father, the Son, and the Holy Sprirt. The Almighty who loves me and this world, who came down to deliver us from the crap we live in. And died on the cross for the worlds sins so that when we die we may forever be with him Heaven. And straight up i have seen him do miracles and watch crazy stuff happen right in front of me. If only everyone could experience God and his freakin awesomeness this world really would be changed,
